We are currently in the process of nominating a financial director, ready for the next stage of the company’s  development.  We will be doing this with the support and advice of our financial and legal advisers. This process will be supported by the company’s advisory board who will pay a critical role in these changes.



Ben Bryant - Private Equity Grant Thornton (Chairman)

Ben currently works with Grant Thornton  in their Private Equity team, focusing on business development, market intelligence and client coverage. Prior to this, Ben lead the Nutraceuticals sector at KPMG working closely with the Life Sciences, Food & Beverage, Private Equity and Enterprise teams. Through leading KPMG’s work in the Nutraceuticals sector, Ben has built a wide network of investors who are focused on  driving business growth in this market.

Ben has over 8 years of experience working in professional services across a variety of sectors and service lines. He has extensive knowledge of the Nutraceutical, Well Being and Health markets, both domestically and internationally. He also has an extensive network of both key individuals and companies in the sector.


Simon Kerry, KarusTherapeutics

Simon is a business professional with almost twenty years’ experience creating and developing innovative life-science businesses. Before joining Karus as the company’s first CEO in 2006, he was Director of Business Development at Ablynx, where he was responsible for securing research, development and licensing agreements with major pharmaceutical companies including Wyeth and Novartis.v Prior to Ablynx, Simon was Director of Business Development at Active Biotech, where he spun-out the molecular evolution company, Isogenica Ltd, later joining the spin-out as Vice President of Business Development.
Simon has held other key commercial appointments at Actinova, where he was responsible for International Business Development , and Actigen, where he was General Manager. Simon has also occupied senior commercial roles at the Health Protection Agency and within the Jasmin group. Simon has a life-science PhD and an executive MBA.


Graham Maw, The Research Network

Dr. Graham Maw is a Medicinal Chemist with 25 Years Pharma Drug Discovery Experience and a proven ability to achieve all project delivery expectations and staff development and performance objectives.  His proven leadership and team-building skills, coupled with the ability to direct strong teams to delivering clinical candidates that the biological customer groups require to test the rationale and efficacy in the clinic have made him an expert reviewer of external scientific opportunities, initiation of collaborative research with biotech and experience of leadership of Joint Steering Committees. Dr.Maw is an active contributor and influencer within both global medicinal chemistry leadership and global Research Science and Technology leadership.


David Vauzour - University of East Anglia

David  Vauzour has a PhD in Chemical and Biological Sciences for Health (Faculty of Pharmacy, University Montpellier 1 France) and a MSc in Biological and Medical Sciences (Faculty of Pharmacy, University Bordeaux 2, France). His research has involved the fields of oxidative stress, free radical biochemistry, neurodegeneration and the health effects of dietary polyphenols, such as flavonoids. Concurrently, his major research interests centre on two functionally associated fields of biomedical sciences: The elucidation of cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the toxicity exerted by endogenously formed compounds; and the cellular and molecular principles involved in the protective effects evoked by potentially beneficial natural compounds.


Nazanin Zand, University of Greenwich

Dr. Nazanin Zand is a Principle Lecturer in Food and Nutrition within the Faculty of Engineering and Science at the University of Greenwich as well as an internationally acclaimed expert in the field of infant nutrition. She is the author of a number of peer reviewed publications and is frequently invited to delivery plenary and other invited lectures at major symposia and at international conferences on food and nutrition. Dr. Zand works with Kent and Medway NHS on food and nutrition projects, but is comfortable working with both the public and private sector and she successfully engages with large multi-national companies through to small regional SMEs.


Roger Carline, East Malling Services

Currently the managing director of East Malling Services, the commercial subsidiary of East Malling Research, Roger has international experience and a sustained record of success in small, start-up and large organisations in the business-to-business marketplace including development of 7 figure business streams.

He has a long history of profitable and high value business creation based on the outputs of research activity including start-up creation, C level and non-executive roles in high tech SMEs and product and service creation in small and large organisations for sectors ranging from electronics, telecoms and aerospace through to food ingredients and agri-tech.


Naz Bashir, Algaecytes

Dr. Bashir is Algaecytes co-founder and Chief Operational Director and brings over ten years of management experience in licencing, early stage investment strategies and renewable businesses. Dr. Bashir has success in the biofuels, chemicals and food sectors.
He managed a university seeding fund and brought value to the portfolio through exists and an IPO. More recently, Dr. Bashir co-founded Biocaldol Limited, a bioethanol company, where he helds the executive position of Business Development Director and has successfully raised an EIS round which led to corporate investment.Dr.Bashis has a PhD in Chemistry and an MBA.

Dennis Douroumis - University of Greenwich

Dr. Dennis Douroumis is a Professor in Pharmaceutical Technology & Process Engineering and for the last 5 years his research focuses on three main areas including Continuous Manufacturing of Pharmaceutical Processes, Nanotechnology and Medical Devices. He hass joined the Editorial Boards of more than six international journals including the Wiley’s Editorial Board for the edition of a series in “Advances in Pharmaceutical Technology”.  He has published more than 7o full papers, 4 patents, 6 book chapters and 2 book editions. He has attracted several EU research grants and industrial support as a leading expert in continuous extrusion processing and development of pharmaceutical dosage forms.

Darren Montgomery, Bremont Consulting

Strategic, analytical marketing leader for video games, software and technology. Expertise honed in senior roles from start-ups to international companies. Enjoy both building new brands and extending existing relationships, with a keen eye for the customer’s journey through both product and marketing. Extensive experience working alongside product developers, agencies, sales and channel partners to develop innovative go-to-market strategies.

He has 9 years leading international software and digital marketing campaigns with Electronic Arts, 5 years strategic management consulting with McKinsey spin-off Mitchell Madison Group and recent experience in Marketing and Executive roles at several SMEs, leading digital marketing and driving growth from the grass-roots.


Karen Thomas

Karen Thomas is an independent trade and investment broker with particular specialisms in inward investment, supply chain support and economic development through bilateral trade agreements focused on the Caribbean and Latin America. This role evolved following her distinguished performance as the Trade and Business Facilitator for the High Commission for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in London;  her responsibilities included implementation of the policies of Trinidad and Tobago in its pursuit of foreign investment, export promotion, sourcing of supplies from various markets and for developing and promoting the economic image of the government. Additionally, alongside the High Commissioner, she was required to build relationships and nurture development between domestic and international partners. Engagement with Trinidad and Tobago government agencies involved in similar activities, as well as with individual firms and industries in Trinidad and Tobago was inherent to achievement of the desired outcomes. Karen read for an MBA at Warwick Business school having previously developed strong marketing, sales and business development expertise. She also holds a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry.
